Who are we?

Finantsinspektsioon is an independent financial supervision and resolution authority in Estonia with responsibility for state financial supervision over companies operating in the Estonian financial market under an authorisation, including banks.

Finantsinspektsioon prioritises the sustainability of the critical functions of the banks during crises.

The assets of depositors, investors and other clients need to be properly protected.

Who do we supervise?

Finantsinspektsioon carries out state supervision over market participants that it has issued a licence to.

The banks operating in Estonia that come under the Single Supervisory Mechanism of the European Central Bank are LHV Pank, SEB Pank, Swedbank and Luminor.

Supervision over branches of banks, insurance companies and investment funds operating in Estonia is exercised by the supervision authority of the country of origin of the branch.

Finantsinspektsioon contributes to designing the financial supervisory policy of the European Union through three European supervisory authorities, which are the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), and the European Securities Market Authority (ESMA).

Finantsinspektsioon is also involved in international capital supervision, anti-money laundering and crisis resolution bodies and works in or with the ESRB, SSM, SRB, IAIS, IOSCO, BSCEE, NBMF, NBSG and AMLA.
